Я сейчас являюсь ментором у пяти студентов, которые хотят писать Extended Essay по биологии. Это такая письменная работа, необходимая для IB, подразумевает в случае биологии проведение биологического эксперимента. Всё это счастье только началось, никаких экспериментов мои дети ещё не делали, но я уже имею много фана, даже с самыми умными из них. На прошлой неделе я три дня читала про jet lag, а на этой неделе я читаю про lactose intolerance, которую мой студент собрался изучать. Отложим в сторону его эксперимент, который работать в первоначальной версии вроде не будет, и ему сейчас нужно думать дальше, как поменять дизайн.

Вернёмся к вопросу про кошку и молоко.

Читала я сегодня читала и вычитала, что
The ability to digest milk endures until the baby is weaned. After weaning, other mammals naturally graduate to life as a vegetarian, carnivore, or omnivore. Thus, there is no question of lactose intolerance in the animal world. Most adult animals refuse to drink milk. Although many people give domesticated adult cats milk in the mistaken belief that it is needed, cats that drink milk often have diarrhea due to lactose intolerance.

Ну вот я думаю, как же так. Дома, в России и на Украине, всегда давали кошкам молоко, и как-то ничего, никакой диарреи. Вообще-то я ни разу не котовладелец, может мне изменяет память? Может давали котятам, но не взрослым кошкам и котам?

В другом месте написано вот что: “Lactase persistence is the phenotype associated with various autosomal dominant alleles prolonging the activity of lactase beyond infancy; conversely, lactase non-persistence is the phenotype associated with primary lactase deficiency (see above). Among mammals, lactase persistence is unique to humans – it evolved relatively recently (in the last 10,000 years) among some populations, and the majority of people worldwide remain lactase non-persistent.^[6] For this reason lactase persistence is of some interest to the fields of anthropology and human genetics, which typically use the genetically-derived persistence/non-persistence terminology.”

А потом следующим шагом нашлось что вроде некоторые кошки всё-таки пьют

Not all cats are lactose intolerant & a little milk as a treat is fine, however the only real way to find out if your cat is lactose intolerant is to try it on a bowl of milk & see if it causes diarrhoea. If you find your cat is okay with cow's milk then the occasional bowl is fine, but this should be given as a treat only.

Так что же получается? Только люди во взрослом возрасте пьют молоко или не только люди?
А если не только, то что ж, люди и кошки?
Или кто-то ещё?
И по кошкам, если такое дело имеется, как там с аутосомными доминантными аллелями? Сейчас пойду в Пабмед посмотрю, но если вы что-то знаете, то скажите.
