Gwendolyn Boyd is coming back to her alma mater from Johns Hopkins University to shepherd Alabama State through a rough patch involving a damning audit aimed at the university. Boyd’s new contract is pretty standard -- $300,000 a year, a car and the presidential residence -- except she can’t have lovers staying overnight for an extended period of time.

Вот мне интересно
Oct. 27th, 2013 11:42 amТак-то у меня всё есть - платье, накидка, шляпа, парик, даже чёрная помада и чёрный лак для ногтей.
А вот метлы нет, и в предыдущие годы по-быстрому её не удалось купить. То есть в магазинах продаются микроскопические мётлы для шестилетних девочек. А мне нужна большая метла, для взрослых ведьм.
Может где-нибудь в хозтоварах купить?
Какой ещё может быть в руках у ведьмы аксессуар? У меня был как-то в руках нож, причём окровавленный, но это выглядело так кровожадно, что нож я больше не хочу. А что ещё? Не волшебную же палочку?

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - Westchester residents must now deal with a federal government shutdown and its ramifications for the first time in 17 years starting Tuesday morning after Congress failed to agree on a spending plan.
The Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed a spending bill that denies funding for the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, which will start Tuesday. Oct. 1 also marks the first day of the Fiscal Year, which lasts through Sept. 30, 2014.
The Democratic-controlled Senate then voted to kill that House legislation last night, creating the impasse that has led to the shutdown.
Since 1977, there have been 18 government shutdowns. None lasted more than three days.
While much is unknown about the latest, including how long it will last and its economic effects, one thing is certain. Millions of Americans, and thousands of Westchester residents, will be missing services.

Интересно было бы если кто-то из чикагцев это читает, узнать, как там всё происходит.
В Нью-Йорк Сити тоже полно ужасных школ в очень бедных районах, но вроде бы о больших увольнениях я там не слышала. Наоборот, вечно не хватает учителей.
The past few weeks haven’t been too good for Chicago Public Schools district. First, principals across the entire system found out that their budgets were being cut. Then, the district officially closed 49 elementary schools, and laid off 850 employees in the process. Unlike the budget cuts mentioned earlier, this was expected – the controversy over school closings has been raging for months – but it didn’t make the whole thing go over any better. And then, just last week, CPS fired 2,113 teachers and other staffers atop of that.
