Thousands are still without power in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, and Village officials in both municipalities are trying to get power back on as soon as possible.

"We aren't a priority," said Sleepy Hollow Village Administrator Anthony Giaccio. "That isn't acceptable and we're trying to get them here quicker to get the majority of people back online."

Both Giaccio and Tarrytown Village Administrator Michael Blau noted that Con Ed has set priority rankings on power issues. The first is to address downed wires and unsafe conditions, the second is to clear streets and the third is to restore power to the area.

"Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of Con Edison," Giaccio said.

Because so many residences and businesses were hit by the storm this weekend, Con Ed has estimated that full power won't be returned until late on Thursday, September 1.

Sleepy Hollow has over 600 customers without power (a customer usually represents about three people). Most of those without power are in Philipse Manor.

In Tarrytown, there are about 1,200 residences without power. The main issue stems from four downed trees, where roads have also been closed: Benedict Avenue, Hamilton Place, Wilson Park Drive and Neperan Road.

Blau noted that many residents had wondered why the process of removing trees from the area had not been initiated by Village Department of Public Works crews.

"We can't touch those trees until Con Ed comes and tells us we can," Blau said. "We have to get the OK from Con Ed that the area is safe."

Although Con Ed crews have preliminarily assessed the damage in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, the processes of clearing roads has not begun.

There is some bright side to the situation, most roads remain open, and no major damage has been reported.

Also, a water emergency in Sleepy Hollow has been lifted. The emergency – asking people to conserve water as much as possible – was enacted because New York City shut down the Catskill Aqueduct due to high levels of turbidity. Shutting down the Catskill meant that the Village's water reservoir started to run low, forcing the Village to use water connections with Greenburgh and Briarcliff Manor.

The Catskill was turned back on at 11:35 a.m. and the Village's reservoirs was fully filled by about 3:30 p.m.
