Village Administrator Michael Blau said that the Tarrytown has prepared all it can for the upcoming storm.

"We're in full preparation. We've cleaned all the catch basins, have barricades ready, have been in contact with the County's Department of Emergency Management and have been on conference calls with Con Ed," Blau said.

Crews with the Fire Department, Ambulance Corps, and Department of Public Works will either be on standby or on call during the storm to handle emergencies and debris. The Tarrytown Police Department, located at Village Hall, is open 24/7. The Tarrytown Police phone number is 631-5544. In case of emergency, dial 911.

Shelter Locations: Main Street Fire House has been designated as a shelter during the storm for anyone who needs assistance or who may be displaced by flooding. The Tarrytown Ambulance Corps headquarters on West Franklin Street has been designated as a backup shelter location.

Current Closures: The parking lots on the west side of the railroad tracks will be closed Saturday and Sunday.

Sleepy Hollow

Mayor Ken Wray said the biggest concern for Village residents, and Village employees, should be the potential for strong winds to take out trees and power lines over the weekend.

"We're not anticipating a need for the shelters," Wray said. "The biggest problem will be what we don't control, and that is the potential for loss of power."

The biggest goal for the Village, according to Wray, will be making sure roads remain open for emergency vehicles and repair crews.

The backup shelter is the James Galgano Community and Senior Center on Elm Street. Fire headquarters will be open starting Saturday afternoon.

Current Closures: All Village parks will be closed as of noon on Saturday to allow people to get home and to avoid the potential for debris to harm individuals.

General Precautions to Take in Town

Put away any loose outdoor items that would become airborne in high winds.
Tie down any items that will be left outside whenever possible.
Get bottled water and non-perishable food, flashlights and battery operated AM/FM radio.
Charge important electronics - Cell Phones, laptops, etc…
If you live in a flood prone area take precautions to move items from basement/garage levels.
Have your car ready and fueled in case you must leave your home.

Power Situation
Con Edison is taking steps to prepare for the potential impacts of this storm. According to the company, the storm’s high winds have the potential to topple trees and power lines throughout the company’s service area.

Customers can report power interruptions or service problems as well as view service restoration information online at www.conEd.com and on their cell phones and PDAs. They may also call Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.

Latest forecasts are predicting that Irene will bring wind gusts up to 85 miles per hour and nearly eight inches of rain to New York.

Hurricane Watches have been extended into our area for Sunday. Tropical Storm Watches have been issued for the area on Saturday. A Hurricane Watch means that hurricane conditions (winds in excess of 74 miles per hour) are possible within the next 48 hours.

Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow should start feeling some rain and storm conditions on Saturday afternoon. When the storm hits on Sunday, winds are still forecast to be at Category 1 strength (between 74 and 95 miles per hour).

Storm conditions should clear up on Sunday night and we're looking at clear skies for Monday.
