Increased class sizes, more than 30 layoffs and the closure of Tappan Hill Elementary School are proposed in the 2010-11 Public Schools of the Tarrytowns $63.4 million budget.

If the current spending plan is approved by voters May 18, property taxes in Tarrytown would inch up a mere 0.10%, but Sleepy Hollow property owners would experience a 6.6% tax hike. The tax percentages differ because of changes in equalization rates and total assessed valuation as determined by the Town of Greenburgh and the Town of Mount Pleasant. more
