Только что подписала контракт на летнюю работу с Johns Hopkins University. CTY в этом году стал нанимать в ноябре, провел предварительные переговоры, попросил подписать pre-contact offer letter в начале декабря, и сегодня прислал окончательный контракт. Судя по всему, они взялись за дело серьезно, после событий июня 2022 года, когда многие курсы пришлось отменить. То есть про две трети лета уже понятно, что я буду делать. Осталась еще одна треть, и идея уже есть, но пока еще далеко от реализации.

На прошлой неделе мы все легли костями, чтобы дописать план нашего проекта по DNA barcoding. Четыре школьницы, я и моя co-teacher. На этом пути нас ожидали разные препятствия. В последний день (когда был deadline подачи) заболела школьница, которая была лидером группы, и которая написала больше всего текста. А кроме того, оказалось, что система не узнает ни меня, ни мою co-teacher, и не разрешает нам сделать account. Пишет: а вы должны тренинг пройти, и согласно нашим записям, вы его не прошли. А мы как раз прошли, я один тренинг, а моя co-teacher целых два. Так что всю пятницу мы им писали и звонили, посылали им свои сертификаты. И они сказали да, ошибочка вышла, прошли вы конечно тренинг, и дали нам возможность подать. Мы подали. А сегодня пришло письмо, что они нас взяли. Моя co-teacher только что прыгала от счастья в классе в присутствии двадцати детей. Дети обалдели.

I've finished watching the series of lectures by Timothy Snyder, "The Making of Modern Ukraine." The entire series was engaging, well-planned, and worthwhile. I would recommend it to just about anyone who wants a survey of the last thousand+ years of the history of Ukraine.

Алексей Шипунов. Будут издавать том Botanica Pacifica, посвященный его памяти. Приглашают ученых к сотрудничеству, особенно тех кто его знал и работал с ним над совместными проектами.

Dear Colleagues,
We invite you to contribute to a Special Issue of Botanica Pacifica dedicated to the memory of Alexey Shipunov (1965–2022). Alexey Shipunov was a biologist of exceptional breadth. His research included (but was not limited by!) so diverse areas as macro- and microevolution, taxonomy and nomenclature, floristics, quantitative methods and databasing. Alexey studied fungi, protists, viruses and of course angiosperms (especially Plantago, Dactylorhiza and Centaurea). Alexey was a great Teacher of botany in various meanings of this word.
We anticipate that the Special Issue will be composed by papers contributed by Alexey’s colleagues and/or focused on research topics somehow related to his studies. Review and opinion papers are welcome. Since Alexey has a lot of collaborations, the Issue may be used as opportunity to finalize and publish such collaborative studies. Finally, taken in the mind the fact that Alexey was an encyclopaedic person, simply high-quality research can be included in the Issue.
Please contact any of the Issue Editors until 1 March 2023 to offer a title of your contribution to the Special Issue. The deadline for manuscript submission is 1 May 2023. All manuscripts should be submitted in English following guidelines of Botanica Pacifica (http://www.geobotanica.ru/bp/). Adding a memorial section at the end of the paper is encouraged, but not required. The memorial section can be either in English or Russian. All papers will be subject of blind peer-review according to the policy of Botanica Pacifica in coordination with Special Issue Editors.
Botanica Pacifica is an international fully open-access journal indexed in Scopus. No processing fee or article submission charges are required. Papers are being rapidly published online before final publication of volumes.
